At Eliegante Hair Design , we want to be your day maker. If you don’t already believe that each day is a special gift, we hope that when you visit our salon you’ll sense a boost that lifts your spirits as you look great and feel refreshed. What each person has in them is contagious, so we all need something to make our day special so we can keep sharing good and positive things with others. Do you know someone who is like this? They are like a treasure to be around.

Another reason why we love Paul Mitchell

I had a guest come into the salon a few weeks ago. She needed a hair product that could hold her style through all the wind and heat of the summer. We’ve had a few good days, right? I said to her, “I can give you something that you can wear to the beach. In fact, go swimming, and your hair will still come out looking great.” She looked skeptical, but she took it.

She came back later amazed. It worked! Great hair, even at the beach! The product I gave her was a texturing cream, from the Paul Mitchell Neon line called Sugar Twist. We love this stuff, along with all Paul Mitchell hair care products. As a certified Focus+ salon, we have the products you need and the ongoing training to help you stay looking your best. The Neon line is fun and flexible, and is infused with natural sugar to add some healthy sweetness to your hair.

But this isn’t all Neon is about.

Paul Mitchell Neon promotes kindness and well being among teens with their ongoing anti-bullying campaign, which provides tools and support to help fight bullying. You can find out more about it by visiting their website or checking out social media at #StickItToBullying.

September is coming and soon it’ll be back to school for many teens (I have 3 daughters, I know!) and I’m proud to partner with a company that helps make schools safer and more positive. Looking your best is great, but feeling you best is greater. That’s why at Eliegante we proudly carry Paul Mitchell products and support their Bully Free Zone campaign.

Do athletes affect fashion?

It’s so awesome to see the new sports park open at Bethel Gospel Tabernacle in Hamilton! Eliegante Hair Design and Spa is a sponsor for this great program helping kids have fun this summer playing soccer and taking a break from their Pokemon hunting! My daughters have wrapped up their sports for the season, but I still love going over to the field (one of the few green lawns left in the city) to watch the little ones have fun.

Graziano_Pelle

Graziano Pelle

Today, a young boy came into my salon with his mom, asking for a hair style (not hair cut, I’ll explain in a minute). He pulled a picture out of his pocket and showed it to me. He said, “can you make me look like Pelle?” I laughed as he handed me a clipping of Italian soccer player Graziano Pelle. He sat in the chair and soon after left the salon happy with a style modelled after the famous soccer star.

Do athletes affect fashion? Yes! This summer I’ve had many requests for sports hair styles. With the Euro Cup just finished and the Olympics almost here, it’s a time when girls and especially boys are getting a look inspired by what they see on the field and on TV. Ponytails, corn rows and braids are very common now for active girls and ladies, and close-cropped, low maintenance cuts (yes, and that straight-line part) for men are not just a summer thing, but highly influenced by sports and popular athletes.

And as I was saying, this is a style, not a hair cut. A hair cut is a clean up. A style is like creating a new you. This is often a major change- maybe it’s a totally new colour or, like for this young boy, a new way of cutting, shaping and wearing your hair.

Don’t be afraid to try something new. If you want, come to our salon and we can talk about a style that will work for you. Enjoy the gym today, enjoy the Olympics this month and always have great hair!

Which Hairstyling Product Should MEN Use?

Some guys don’t give a ton of extraneous thought to their hair—that is, beyond washing it each day and wondering if/when/where it’s going to start falling out. If that’s you, then updating your hairstyle to sync with the season or to project a new image probably seems like a lot more hassle than it’s worth. Trust us, we feel you on that. But whether you’ve been using the same gel or mousse since you were in high school—or have never put anything in your hair at all—it’s a lot easier than you might think to switch up your look simply by switching up your product
– *Hair Gel: Use it if you have short to medium hair, you can go for a “wet” look with gel
*Pomade: If you want a hold that’s a little bit more pliable It’s great for that “behead” look.
*Mousse: Guys with longer hair should consider using mousse. It’ll give you more control and definition than using nothing at all , but your hair can still move naturally.
* Hair Spray: To max out the hold on longer hair, use hair spray. It will control frizz and flyaway’s without making your hair feel sticky.

Blonde Hair Tips & Tricks

Most adult women with blonde hair are actually not naturally blonde. As we age our hair tends to darken to at least dishwater — or dirty — blonde. The main exception, of course, are some Scandinavian blondes, who start out super blonde as kids and stay some true version of blonde until old age. Yet blonde hair remains the most popular hair color in America and around the world . If you’re considering taking the plunge and going blonde, make sure you’ll look good as a blonde. Here’s how to tell if you will. Your Skin & Eye Color Matters Most women will look good in some shade of blonde. But not every woman will look like a natural blonde. Kim Kardashian, for example, can go blonde as she does here in this picture, but you’d never wonder to yourself, “Is she naturally blonde?”

Big, bouffant, feminine and sexy: 2013 brings a number of 1960s inspired hairstyles that’ll have you reaching for your minidress and false lashes. Breaking out of the pattern for all things effortless, these styles may take a bit of backcombing and hairspray – but they’re more than worth it!!!!!

What is a bouffant?

Not everything about the coming year is focused on the modern and effortless. Pay homage to the 1960s with playful bouffant styles that will have you relishing in nostalgia for a time when big hair and bigger eyelashes were the look of choice. After the break, the best 1960s inspired hairstyles to try in 2013. What is a bouffant? A bouffant hairstyle translates to a big hairstyle. To get this hairstyle the hair is teased leaving the crown of the hair looking really full or volumized. Today, bouffant hairstyles come in a variety of shapes and sizes but the effect remains the same: they exude confidence and class. On the runway for spring 2013 we’ve seen a number of key shows indulge in elegant, retro-inspired bouffants – most of them include a deep side part and plenty of volume. Make sure there is enough texture and support in the hair to make the style hold. In this example we’ve kept the texture just enough to add volume but not so much to make the style messy. For night time, or to really add to the sixties sex kitten feel of the look you can add even more texture. To keep the texture in place use a volumising mousse. Separate the hair into sections and curl it, away from the face, using either a curling iron or hot rollers. On Rhiannon’s hair a ghd hair iron was used to create curls throughout the hair.Brush the curls out to break them up and give them a softer, more natural look. Separate out a circular section of hair at the top of the crown. You can use a mirror to see the back of your head if creating the style on yourself.Next, divide the section into smaller partings. These will be back-combed, starting at the back so it’s easier to build up volume and height.Hold the very back parting with medium tension and with a comb work the root area only. Back-combing, if done right, shouldn’t cause too much damage to your hair and shouldn’t knot. Tip: work the comb about an inch away from scalp, put comb in and work in curved movements down to root area, take comb out of root area and repeat. Follow the same back-combing process with each of the partings of hair. After all the back-combing is completed your hair should look something like this. Don’t worry if it’s messy at this stage – only a few more steps until you have a sixties Brigitte Bardot bouffant hairdo. Softly brush the very top layer of hair back, smoothing it over the back-combed section. Work your bouffant shape into the desired height and roundness, then pull back the hair and pin it in the centre with bobby pins to hold it in place. To add polish to your sixties Brigitte Bardot hairstyle bring two more smaller side sections of hair into the style. Pin the two side sections in place. Tip: lightly twist each side into the centre as you do this to help create balance and a smoother finish.Spray the hair lightly all over with a firm hold hairspray to finish. And that’s it: you now have a simple to complete, subtle take on 60s sex kitten hair. While this is a modern take, you can make the style more extreme and more authentically Brigitte Bardot by exaggerating the curls and the back combed texture even more.Should you have any further questions on how to or would like to comment on the hair style feel free to leave us a comment on facebook or email us eliegante.cominfo@eliegante.com
